Realizing that your WhatsApp account has been hacked can be very worrying. It means not only are your private chats and personal information in danger, but the people on your contact list could also be at risk.

So in today’s article, you will be guided on activating the Two-Step Verification feature on your WhatsApp to avoid being hacked.

Two-step verification adds an extra layer of security to your WhatsApp account. It requires you to set up a six-digit PIN that will be prompted occasionally as you use WhatsApp and whenever you register your phone number with WhatsApp.

WhatsApp can be downloaded on Android, iPhone, or Windows.

How To Enable Two-Step Verification on WhatsApp on Android

  1. Launch “WhatsApp” on your Android.
  2. Tap on the three dots in the top-right corner.
  3. Open “Settings”.
  4. Now select “Account” then “Two-Step Verification”.
  5. Tap on “Turn On” at the bottom.
  6. You’ll be asked to “create a 6-digit PIN”.
  7. Confirm your PIN by typing it again.
  8. Now add an “Email Address” that you can use to reset your PIN in case you forget it, then tap “Next”.
  9. Confirm your Email by typing it again then tap “Save”.
  10. Done! You have successfully enabled “Two-Step Verification” on your WhatsApp.

How To Enable Two-Step Verification on WhatsApp on iPhone

  1. Launch “WhatsApp” on your iPhone.
  2. Open “Settings” in the bottom corner.
  3. Now select “Account” then “Two-Step Verification”.
  4. Tap “Enable”.
  5. You’ll be asked to “create a 6-digit PIN” then confirm your PIN by typing it again.
  6. Now add an “Email Address” that you can use to reset your PIN in case you forget it.
  7. Confirm your Email by typing it again.
  8. Done! You have successfully enabled “Two-Step Verification” on your WhatsApp.

If for some reason, you want to disable your Two-Step Verification, below are the steps on how to go about it. I wouldn’t advise you to disable it but if you insist for any kind of reason, follow the guide below.

How To Disable Two-Step Verification on WhatsApp on Android

  1. Launch “WhatsApp”.
  2. Tap on the three dots in the top-right corner.
  3. Open “Settings”.
  4. Now select “Account”.
  5. Select “Two-Step Verification”.
  6. Tap on “Turn Off“.

After turning on this security feature on your phone, you can continue using WhatsApp like usual. The only difference is that you will be asked periodically to enter your PIN as you continue to use the app and if you try to set up WhatsApp on a new phone with the same number, you’ll need to enter your Passcode.
