Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 Announced With 15% Faster CPU, 50% More Powerful GPU
Qualcomm announced its latest midrange 7 series chipset for mobile devices with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3.
While the naming may imply this is a successor to the SD 7+ Gen 2 or SD 7s Gen 2, the new chip slots between the two aforementioned SoCs. SD 7 Gen 3 is fabbed on TSMC’s 4nm process technology and features a 1+3+4 CPU package.
The Kryo CPU brings a prime core clocked at 2.63GHz, alongside 3 x performance cores @2.4 Ghz and 4 x efficiency cores @1.8GHz.
Qualcomm claims a 15% improvement in CPU performance and 50% faster Adreno GPU compared to last year’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chip.
The 7 Gen 3 chip is also stated to offer 20% power savings based on Qualcomm’s tests.
The Qualcomm Hexagon NPU inside the SD 7 Gen 3 should offer 60% faster AI performance per watt over SD 7 Gen 1. The Adreno GPU supports OpenGL ES 3.2, OpenCL 2.0 FP and Vulkan 1.3 APIs.Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 vs Snapdragon 7 Gen 3

The new Qualcomm chip also brings support for up to 4K resolution displays at 60Hz refresh rate or FHD+ resolution at 168Hz. It is equipped with a Qualcomm Spectra ISP which can handle up to 200MP main camera modules and record 4K HDR video at 60Hz.
SD 7 Gen 3 is paired with the Snapdragon X63 5G Modem-RF System which ensures up to 5 Gbps download speeds over mmWave and sub-6 GHz bands. The connectivity department also brings support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 standards.
The first devices with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 are expected to launch later this month with Honor and vivo listed as the key OEMs set to pioneer the new chip.
