How To Buy Prepaid Credits With ECG PowerApp

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has rolled out a mobile app called ECG PowerApp, which allows customers to do cashless business with the company anytime.

This mobile app has given an alternative way of reducing long queues at various offices, whereby everyone can easily pay postpaid bills and buy prepaid credits without going through any stress.

The ECG PowerApp is an app that is available for both Android smartphones and iPhones for customers to pay postpaid bills and buy prepaid credits. According to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), if you use a non-smartphone version of the service, you can easily use the shortcode *226#.

The app supports the purchase of credit via mobile money, Vodafone Cash, and AirtelTigo as payment options. Below is the list of supported meters;

  • Nuri (Kamstrup)
  • Holley
  • Alpha
  • MBH
  • CLOU meters and all postpaid meters.

In order to purchase prepaid credit, customers would need to have specific meters which have the smart prepaid feature. Currently, if your meter is still using the NFC card and doesn’t have the smart features, you can’t purchase through ECG PowerApp.

How to use ECG PowerApp to buy prepaid credits

Follow the steps below to learn how to use the new ECG PowerApp to buy prepaid credits.

Logging In

  1. A user is required to enter their valid mobile phone number to receive a free One Time Password (OTP) via SMS text message to login.
  2. If the OTP is not received, the user may dial the shortcode *713*414# to view the OTP within 5 minutes of their login attempt.

Adding Meters

  1. Both Prepaid and Postpaid meters can be added to a user’s account.
  2. To add a meter, a user must provide the meter number and confirm the details.
  3. To save the meter, the user must give the meter a name and add the Ghana Post GPS address of the property.
    • The GhanaPost GPS address enables ECG to notify the user about relevant service issues that may affect the service to the meter.
  4. Once a meter is saved, the user may tap on the meter card to get “More Details” on the Meter.

To Buy Credit For a Prepaid Meter

  1. Select Buy Credit on the saved prepaid meter.
  2. Enter the amount of prepaid credit you want to pay for.
  3. Select a preferred payment option.
  4. Proceed to see the status of the transaction and also view the receipt for a successful transaction.
  5. Should a transaction fail, the user may report the failed transaction or wait to receive a refund.

Paying a Postpaid Bill

To pay a bill for a postpaid meter, the user must:

  1. Select Pay Bill on the saved postpaid meter.
  2. Enter the amount of postpaid credit to pay for
  3. Select a preferred payment option
  4. Proceed to see the status of the transaction and also view the receipt for a successful transaction.
  5. Should the transaction fail, the user may report the failed transaction or wait to receive a refund.
