How To Reset Your MoMo PIN [2024]

Resetting your MTN Mobile Money (MoMo) PIN is a breeze, and you can ditch the trip to the office! Use the convenient shortcode *170# or the user-friendly MTN MoMo App to do it in a snap.

In today’s article, we’ll be going through two different ways you can reset your MTN MoMo PIN if you feel the need for it or think it has been compromised.

Every MTN MoMo PIN is unique and should be kept secure. Never share your MoMo PIN with anyone. However, if you ever feel your MoMo PIN has been compromised, you can request a MoMo PIN reset.

How To Reset Your MTN Mobile Money (MoMo) PIN Using the MTN MoMo App.

Follow the steps below to learn how:

  1. Download the MTN MoMo App on your Android or iPhone.
  2. Open the app.
  3. Enter your Current MoMo PIN to sign in to the app.
  4. Tap on Account at the top-left of your screen.
  5. Select Change PIN from the listed Menu.
  6. Enter your Current MoMo PIN.
  7. Now enter your New PIN and confirm it by re-typing it again.
  8. Done. You will receive an SMS confirmation message saying your MoMo PIN has been changed.

How To Reset Your MTN Mobile Money (MoMo) PIN Using Shortcode.

Adding a recovery phone number is crucial before we begin this process. This number will ensure a smooth account reset if needed. Remember, it should be your phone number.

  1. Dial *170#.
  2. Select Option 6 [My Wallet].
  3. Select Option 6 [Change & Reset PIN].
  4. Then select Option 2 [Reset PIN].
  5. Now choose Option 1 [Self PIN Reset].
  6. Select Option 1 [Add Recovery Contact].
  7. Add your Recovery Phone Number (E.g. 0541234567)
    • Note that the Recovery Phone Number can be any mobile number from any other Network. It doesn’t necessarily have to be an MTN number.
  8. Enter your Mobile Money PIN to confirm your recovery number.
  9. An OTP will be sent to your number.
  10. Enter the OTP sent to you via SMS.
  11. Done. You have successfully added a Recovery Phone Number.

Now that your Recovery Phone Number has been successfully added, you can proceed to reset your MoMo PIN.

  1. Dial *170#.
  2. Select Option 6 [My Wallet].
  3. Select Option 6 [Change & Reset PIN].
  4. Then select Option 2 [Reset PIN].
  5. Now choose Option 1 [Self PIN Reset].
  6. Select Option 4 [PIN Reset].
  7. Enter your Current MoMo PIN.
  8. Now enter your New PIN and confirm it by re-typing it again.
  9. Done. You will receive an SMS confirmation message saying your MoMo PIN has been changed.
